Several provisions of Regulation (EU) 2015/2424 OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL of 16 December 2015 will enter into force on 1 October, thus completing the amendment of the European Union Trade Mark Regulation. The Implementing Regulation No 2017/1431 of 18 May 2017 and Delegate Regulation No 2017/1430 of the same date replacing Regulations (EC) No 2868/95 of the European Union Trade Mark Enforcement and (EC) No 216/96 shall also apply from that date.

The entry into force of these amendments and bodies of legislation will involve changes in three main areas: -)

1. The requirement of graphic representation, which has been required until now for a sign to constitute a trade mark, has been eliminated.

2nd. A new type of trade mark appears in European Union law.

3rd. Significant procedural changes are taking place.
